Known as the wildflower jewel of the West Coast, Darling has presented an annual wildflower show since 1917.

In December 2010, the Silver Falcons Aerobatic Team underwent some drastic changes. Maj Nico Frylinck, Falcon 5 completed his tour with the Team giving over the reins to Maj Beau Skarda and leaving big shoes to fill, a challenge Beau took up, displaying exemplary airmanship and ‘big match’ temperament. Major Roy Sproul who was promoted to Team Leader worked extremely hard towards this end and ensured that the ‘Absolute Precision’ flying of his new Team lived up to the exceptional standards the public has come to expect of the Silver Falcons. Capt Heybrech van Niekerk, the first female member, who joined the Team as the new Number 2 pilot to replace Roy after his promotion has been an inspiration and sensation for young women all across the country.
The excitement for this year’s snoek Classic to be held in December is hotting up and the organizers have already been receiving entries since August for the Snoek Classic in Yzerfontein. The event has grown so, that it is now the biggest recreational fishing event in the Western Cape. This will be the sixth year in a row that the Yzerfontein Boat Club offers a brand-new ski boat with engines and trailer as a first prize for the heaviest Cape Snoek. This first prize isvalued at over R185 000.00 and the total value of prizes for the competition amounts to R350 000.00. Last year saw a record-breaking number of entries with over 320 anglers participating on 77 boats.
The Distell Holiday 23 “Fun” Worlds is the event every Holiday 23 owner marks on his calendar long in advance. Life for these keen sailors is planned around this event. Hosted by the Port Owen Yacht Club, this biannual regatta is characterized by the get-together of “yachties” from all over the country, enthusiastic sailors with great sportsmanship. Levels of experience and skills of the sailors differ considerably, yet it offers a prime opportunity to compete against the best in the class.
On 26 September 2014 approximately 415 determined and motivated cyclists put foot to pedal for a three day challenging stage race characterized by taking the cyclist through the most scenic Renosterveld of the Western Cape. Cyclists entered in one of two categories the “Black Rhino” or the “White Rhino”, the latter being shorter distances of approximately 65 km per day as opposed to around 90 km per day.
The Swartland Agricultural Show is a highlight on the calendar of Moorreesburg. This show does not only create an opportunity for farmers to measure their animals against a given benchmark, but it also presents a festive event where young and old can interact socially and have a lot of fun. The underlying principle of these events is also to cultivate an appreciation for the very important role that agriculture plays in our daily existence.
